Pre-operative information for patients having open shoulder and elbow surgery

 Preparing for surgery

  • Make sure you have arrangements with work or college about when you will return to work or education.

  • Find out about local public transport.

  • Practice doing things with the un-operated arm.

  • Take old t-shirts and cut then up the operation side under the arm or buy some inexpensive large t-shirts. They will be easier to slip over your head and sling.

  • Shopping, consider on-line delivery service or make arrangements for family or friends to shop for you.

  • Prepare meals in advance. Cut up food required, as you will find it more difficult to chop or cut food after surgery.
